STARS WIN IN SHOOTOUT FRIDAY

LINCOLN WINS MARATHON 4-3

Lincoln, NE. —  The Lincoln Stars (2-3-0-0) beat the Des Moines Buccaneers (5-1-0-1) 4-3 in the shootout in front of a celebratory crowd at the Ice Box on Friday night.

The Buccaneers got the scoring started in the first via a power-play tally 6:55 into the game. The Stars would answer back in the latter stages of the frame, when Jackson Rudh (St. Cloud State) fired home his third goal of the season, knotting the game at one after one.

The Buccaneers would take advantage of a break on a collision in neutral to take the lead back, but the Stars would answer right back when Rudh collected his second of the night to tie the game up once more. Des Moines would add another tally late in the period, and take the advantage into the final intermission.

The third period went back-and-forth, with the Stars finding a late equalizer on a power-play goal from Hugo Cal. The game would remain tied, and head into the overtime period in Lincoln.

Des Moines was unable to capitalize on a power-play late in the extra-frame, sending the game to the skills competition. Lincoln would score three times in 10 chances, and Lukas Stuhrmann would stand tall in the crease to give the Stars their first home win of the season.

Lincoln returns to action tomorrow night in Des Moines against the Buccaneers at 6:05 p.m. Madsen's Bowling & Billiards will be hosting tomorrow's watch party.
