STARS SHUTOUT SIOUX CITY

PROWSE MAKES 18 SAVES, CAL SCORES TWICE IN WIN

Sioux City, IA. —  The Lincoln Stars (1-2-0-0) leaped into the win column with a 2-0 shutout win over the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday in Iowa.

The Stars would get the scoring started on the power-play. Hugo Cal found himself with room in the low slot, and took a pass from Casey Vandertop (St. Thomas) and rifled it off of the post and in to notch his first USHL goal, and give the Stars the 1-0 lead. Lincoln would be given three more power-play opportunities in the first, but were unable to grow the lead before the intermission.

In the second, the Musketeers would control the pace of play. Sioux City out-shot Lincoln 9-3 in the middle frame, but were unable to get past goaltender William Prowse (Boston University) as the game held at 1-0 heading into the third period.

In the third, the Stars would play a gritty period of hockey, and find themselves with the 1-0 lead with 5:26 to play in regulation. At the 5:26 mark, Nick Snyder (Vermont) drew a five-minute major penalty that allowed the Stars to salt away the third period. Hugo Cal added an empty-net tally on the power-play, sending the Stars into the win column with a 2-0 victory.

Stars goaltender William Prowse made all 18 saves in the shutout victory, his seventh career USHL shutout.

The Stars return to action on Friday at the Ice Box against the Tri-City Storm. Tickets are available at lincolnstars.com
