Artt Brey

Artt Brey is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Stars on head coach Rocky Russo's staff.

Under Brey's tutelage the Stars have produced three impressive goaltenders in Kaidan Mbereko, Cameron Whitehead and Yan Shostak. Mbereko went 18-11-1-2 with a 3.01 GAA and .898 SV% in 2021-22 before committing to Colorado College and eventually earning 2022-23 All-College Hockey News Rookie Team, All-NCHC Second and Rookie Teams as well as a spot on Team USA in the 2023 World Junior Championship. Whitehead went 41-23-4-3 with a 2.98 GAA and .898 SV% in 74 games with the Stars in Brey's first two years before committing to Northeastern. He was also drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2022 NHL Draft and joined the Henderson Knights of the AHL in 2025. Shostak broke through as the Stars no. 1 goaltender in 2023-24 by going 20-18-1-1 with a 3.05 GAA and .902 SV% in 41 games. He won USHL Goaltender of the Year in 2024-25 and was one-of-three finalists for USHL Player of the Year award by going 29-12-1-0 with a 2.40 GAA and .911 SV% in 43 games. Stars' 2024-25 backup goaltender William Prowse earned a spot on the All-USHL Rookie Team with a 15-3-2-0 record, 2.77 GAA and .896 SV% in 25 games. 

Brey most recently finished his professional hockey career as a goaltender with the SPHL Birmingham Bulls. The Orange County, CA minded the net for four years at Saint Lawrence University (NCAA DI) following a three-year stint in the USHL between the years of 2012-15 with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Sioux Falls Stampede, winning a Clark Cup with each respective program. Brey is one of five goalies in the last 58 years to win two Clark Cup championships. Since retiring from hockey, he has pursued higher education, earning his graduate degree in Sport Performance Psychology from Cal Baptist University.
