VEINBERGS TALLIES TWICE, STARS TOP LANCERS

POSTGAME ARTICLE PRESENTED BY GREAT CLIPS

Klavs Veinbergs scored two goals and the Lincoln Stars defeated the Omaha Lancers, 5-2, on Friday night at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

Veinbergs was one of five Stars to record a multi-point night and he led the way with two goals and an assist. Cole Crusberg-Roseen scored and added an assist while Boston Buckberger, Keaton Peters and Brennan Ali all recorded two assist efforts.

"It wasn't only me earning it," Veinbergs said. "That was a great pass by Keaton on that power play goal. Good shot by Buckberger and a good tip by (Michael) Mesic on the second one, I just got to put it in. Brennan Ali is a powerhouse. It's always fun to play with him and it's easy to play with him."

Both of Veinbergs' goals came after the second intermission began concluded, but both did not come in the third period. With 6:09 to go in the second a power outage knocked out power on the scoreboards and forced both teams to go to the locker room early before the power could be restored. Peters fed Veinbergs for a cross-ice one-timer that found the back of the net on a four-on-three power play at the 14:20 mark of the second period. Veinbergs netted his second of the game in the third period when he crashed the crease and whacked home a rebound to give him his third multi-point game and second is as many games.

The two teams combined for five goals in the first period but it was the Stars who took a 3-2 lead into the locker room. Four-of-the-five goals in the first period came in a span of 3:46 midway through the frame. Vincent Salice put Omaha on the board first at 6:19 but DJ Hart settled the puck at the blue line and flicked a shot through the traffic and past netminder Michael Hrabal less than a minute later to tie the game up with his second goal of the season.

Jared Mangan gave the Stars the lead just 1:11 seconds after Hart tied the game when he scored on a rebound after a shot in an open slot from Tanner Ludtke. Omaha tied the game up on Andon Cerbone's fourth of the season after nice patience from Alex Bump to wait on the defense to dive by on a shot block attempt and set up Cerbone at the 10:05 mark of the first. Crusberg-Roseen potted home a rebound in the final two minutes of the first to score his second goal in as many games and net the eventual game-winner.

"Today I thought we were really patient," head coach Rocky Russo said. "I thought we played a really good second period. Normally I don't like to start a period on the power play but having that extra time gave us a chance to really talk to that group about what were trying to accomplish and where we were trying to get a shot from and we were able to execute in a really big way."

Lincoln has won three straight games and looks to push that streak to four on Saturday night when it hosts Des Moines at 6:05. It's Military Night at the Ice Box and the Stars will have a postgame jersey auction featuring the specialty jerseys that they will sport Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at lincolnstars.com
