KLEBER DELIVERS OVERTIME WINNER

STARS WIN SUNDAY NIGHT

Adam Kleber scored a power-play goal at the 4:36 mark of overtime and the Lincoln Stars defeated the Madison Capitols, 2-1, on Sunday night at the Ice Box.

Kleber one-timed a cross-ice feed from Keaton Peters to score his second goal of the season, both of which have been game-winners. Peters drew a penalty at the 3:43 mark of overtime when Madison goaltender Carsen Musser tripped him up on a wraparound attempt behind the net. Kleber's left-corner slapper came moments after just missing the net on another one timer but delivered his first goal at home as the game-winner.

"His maturity is what sets him apart," head coach Rocky Russo said. "He is a 4.0 student and an elite human being. He's got a lot more confidence with the puck on his stick now. Offensively he has taken large strides."

Kleber has scored the game-winning goal in both of the Stars' wins this season with his first USHL goal coming against Chicago on Sep. 22 at the Fall Classic. The Chaska, Minn. native is now tied for the team lead in goals and is the lone Stars' defenseman to find the back of the net this season through four games.

"My parents were here so I went towards them," Kleber said. "It was a great moment. I think I was just being more calm on the follow through (on the second attempt), just making sure I was being accurate because I knew I was going to get another one. Luckily Keats made a great pass and the rest is history."

Neither team scored until the third period but Lincoln (2-2-0-0) held Madison (4-1-0-0) to less than five goals for the second time this season while also handing the Capitols their first loss of the season.

Jared Mangan got the Stars on the board first by forcing a turnover in his own end and then scoring on a wrist atop of the left-wing circle off a feed from Dashel Oliver at the 1:54 mark of the third for his second goal of the season.

Austin Burnevik tied the game up at the 18:18 mark of the third with the Capitols' net empty and an extra attacker on the ice for Madison's lone goal.

Stars netminder Yan Shostak improved to 2-0 by stopping 27-of-28 shots. His finest save of the night came with 5:52 to go in the third when he extended the right pad to deny Jake Rozzi at the edge of the crease.

The Stars will play their fifth and sixth consecutive games against Eastern Conference teams this Friday and Saturday, respectively, as they welcome the Youngstown Phantoms to the Ice Box. The puck drops at 7:05 on Friday and at 6:05 on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at lincolnstars.com.
