STARS FALL TO LANCERS IN A SATURDAY NIGHT SHOWDOWN

Yan Shostak stands tall and saves 31 of 33 shots despite loss

The Lincoln Stars after a seven goal frenzy on Friday afternoon, struggle to find the back of the net on Saturday in Omaha. Stars fell to the Lancers for the second time this season, this time by a score of 2-0.

Lincoln (4-13-0-2) now haven't been able to win back to back games this season despite the offensive zone chances and phenomenal goal tending by goalie Yan Shostak.

Omaha (4-13-2-0) was able to shut out Lincoln at home and for a second consecutive Saturday defeat the Stars by two goals.

Early on in the game both teams struggled to find any real scoring chances. Lincoln had 13 shots in the first period but was unable to find the back of the net. Late in the third period Lancers forward David Deputy would find the back of the net off a pass from Ethan Fredricks to open the scoring and make it 1-0. One penalty each per team in the opening period, both teams would be unsuccessful on the man advantage.

Second period was filled with plenty of opportunities, Omaha took two penalties, the first by Charlie Lieberman and then next by Noah Jones. Lincoln was unable to capitalize on any chances. Scoring chances came from Blake Montgomery, Ryan Spinale, and Keaton Peters but Mikhail Yegorov was able to stop each opportunity. Omaha had one power play opportunity off of an Aidan Janz hooking call, but would not capitalize. No scoring would take place in the second period.

Lincoln struggled early in the third period to generate offensive zone time early on. Yan Shostak saved 31 of 33 shots on goal. Shostak made two great saves late in the game on David Deputy and Will Elger. Not only did Shostak make these saves but kept Lincoln in the game all evening. Justin Stupka would find the back of the net for the Lancers off of a slot pass from Drew DellaSalla which gave the Lancers a 2-0 lead. Lincoln would have a couple of chances late but unable to put one in the net.

The Lincoln Stars dropped this match against Omaha by a score of 2-0 despite a late rally in the third. Lincoln will be in Cedar Rapids Friday December 1st and then in Dubuque on Saturday December 2nd.
