MANGAN SCORES TWICE IN THIRD, STARS FALL IN SHOOTOUT

SCORES TEAM-LEADING SIXTH, SEVENTH GOALS

The Lincoln Stars rallied back from a 2-0 deficit but ultimately fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede, 3-2, in a shootout on Friday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Jared Mangan scored two goals and Yan Shostak stopped a season-high 39 shots to help Lincoln (3-6-0-2) earn a point on the road. J.J. Wiebusch scored the only goal of the shootout as the final shooter of the third to give the Stampede the victory.

Mangan leads the Stars with seven goals, a figure that ranks tied for 13th in the USHL and only five goals from moving into the league lead. His two-goal effort marked the third multi-goal game by a Stars skater and the second to come on the road this season.

The Stars were outshot, 41-22, but scored twice in the third period to overcome the deficit. Mangan redirected a shot from Nikolas Young at the 6:38 mark of the frame before being handed the puck by Jimmy Jurcev from the near boards, sidestepping a defender and wiring the puck top shelf at the 15:55 mark.

Sioux Falls (8-4-1-0) tallied once in each of the opening periods. Jaksen Panzer scored on the power play off a backdoor feed from Wiebusch at the 5:46 mark of the opening frame before Beckett Hendrickson roofed a backhand shot 1:46 into the second period.

Lincoln returns home on Saturday for its first home game in the last three weeks. The Stars will host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at 6:05 p.m. on Military Night. There will be a postgame jersey auction for the specialty uniforms that the Stars will be wearing with proceeds benefitting the Nebraska Warriors. Tickets can be purchased at lincolnstars.com
