STARS FALL IN LAST GAME BEFORE HOLIDAY BREAK

MONTGOMERY SCORES EIGHTH GOAL OF SEASON

The Lincoln Stars scored first but fell to the Tri-City Storm, 6-1, on Saturday night at the Vireo Center.

Blake Montgomery opened the scoring with an impressive shot from the far corner that he elevated top shelf to put the Lincoln (8-16-0-2) up 1-0. Jared Mangan's stretch pass ahead for Montgomery at center ice was just out of reach but he hustled over to corral it in the far corner and snipe the puck up top.

Montgomery nearly had a second goal 13 seconds later when his breakaway chance was denied but as he collided with goaltender Cameron Korpi the puck rolled into the net. The officials ruled no goal initially and stuck with that decision after reviewing the play and then Tri-City (13-9-1-1) went to work, scoring the game's next six goals.

Tri-City scored twice in the first period, including the eventual game-winner by Seth Constance with a minute to go in the frame. The Storm added an insurance goal in the second before potting three more goals in the third, including two by Blake Steenerson.

The Stars will disperse and individually head out of town for the holiday break before returning with a rivalry game at home against Omaha on Dec. 29. Tickets can be purchased now at lincolnstars.com
