Doug Grimes and Daniel Sambuco scored but the Lincoln Stars fell to the Fargo Force, 3-2, on Friday night at Scheels Arena.
Lincoln (25-14-2) took a 2-0 lead into the final minute of the second period but Cole Knuble cut the deficit to one before the second intermission. Joe Palodichuk and Owen Mehlenbacher scored 1:01 apart early in the third period to give Fargo (29-8-1-3) its first and only lead that it would need.
Neither team got on the board in the first period despite the Force firing 19 shots and limiting the Stars to nine. Lincoln got in the offensive early in the second period and Grimes carried the puck in from the far boards to the edge of the slot between the two circles and fired a wrister past Matej Marinov for his 13th goal of the season and third in as many games against Fargo.
Daniel Sambuco redirected a shot from Boston Buckberger 9:47 later for his eighth goal of the season and sixth away from the Ice Box. Sambuco has now scored four times in the last nine games and twice in the last three.
That assist gave Buckberger his second assist of the game. Friday was Buckberger's fourth consecutive multi-point game and he also extended his point streak to seven games. Brennan Ali also stretched his point streak to seven games with the secondary assist on Grimes's goal.
The loss snapped the Stars' six-game point streak, making it the first time that they lost in regulation since Jan. 28. Lincoln and Fargo face off again on Saturday night at 6:05 at Scheels Arena.
