STARS SCORE THREE POWER-PLAY GOALS BUT FALL TO SIOUX CITY

POSTGAME ARTICLE PRESENTED BY GREAT CLIPS

Jared Mangan recorded his first multi-goal game of the season but the Lincoln Stars dropped Sunday's game to the Sioux City Musketeers, 7-5, at the Tyson Events Center.

Lincoln (25-16-2) took a 3-2 lead into the third but dropped its fourth straight game. Sioux City (19-18-2-3) scored five times in the third and the Stars showed their resiliency by twice tying the game back up again but they could not score consecutive goals to retake the lead in the final 20 minutes.

Mangan scored the only goal of the first period  with a wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle at the 5:38 mark. That gave him goals in three of the last five games and put the Stars up 1-0. Mangan tied the game up for the second time at the 11:17 mark of the third period with a redirection on a shot by Tyler Dunbar.

The Stars scored three power-play goals for the first time since April 1, 2022, also at Sioux City. Boston Buckberger, Mason Marcellus and Tanner Ludtke all cashed in on the man advantage as Lincoln went 3-for-6 on the power play.

After Mangan got things started with a first-period goal the Stars added to the lead with a one-timer blast on the power play by Buckberger at the 3:33 mark of the second. The Musketeers tied it up with a pair of goals later in the period but Marcellus weaved through the defense and slipped a backhander off the leg of netminder Samuel Urban for the second power-play goal of the night.

Sioux City scored twice 39 seconds apart and took a 4-3 lead 1:34 into the third period but the Stars answered on their third power-play goal of the game, this time from Ludtke as he batted home a rebound near-post side at the 6:45 mark.

Dylan Godbout gave the Musketeers the lead again with his third of the game 1:11 later for the second Sioux City hat trick of the season. The Stars again tied it up on Mangan's second goal of the game but it would be the last time that they fought back to even up the game. Tomi Leppanen one-timed a rebound at the top of the left circle at the 12:46 mark before Grant Slukynsky added an empty netter in the final seconds.

The Stars play their fourth consecutive road game Friday as they travel to Sioux Falls before hosting the Stampede on Saturday at 6:05.
