WHITEHEAD NAMED USHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK FOR A THIRD TIME

BACKSTOPPED STARS TO A WEEKEND SWEEP AT FARGO

The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Monday that Stars goaltender Cameron Whitehead has been named the Goaltender of the Week for Week 29 of the 2022-23 season.

Whitehead, 19, stopped a combined 62-of-64 shots in two games as the Stars swept the Fargo Force on the road. Whitehead turned aside all 29 shots that he faced on Saturday to record his fifth shutout of the season. That figure is tied for the second-most in Stars' single-season history and is also tied for the most in the USHL this season. Whitehead has won each of his last five starts while recording a 2.81 GAA and a .907 save percentage in that time.

"It's cool but it's a team thing," Whitehead said after Saturday's 3-0 Stars win. "A goalie can't get a shutout on his own. The guys played great in front of me all weekend and I'm just fortunate. I think there was a stretch in the second period where I was pretty busy but other than that I feel like I was seeing everything pretty clearly. There wasn't a lot of traffic in front of me, the rebounds were good and they were blocking pucks for me."

Whitehead is a Northeastern commit and was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft. The Orleans, Ontario native's 25 wins, 2,434 minutes and 1,078 saves are all second-most among USHL netminders. Whitehead went 16-8-2-2 with a 3.19 GAA and an .892 SV% in 31 games with the Stars last season.

This is the third time that Whitehead has been named Goaltender of the Week after previously earning the honor for the first week of the season. Whitehead stopped 45-of-46 shots in a pair of victories at the Fall Classic, including a 30-save shutout on Sep. 23 against Green Bay. He was awarded the honor for a second time for Week 16 after stopping a combined 61-of-64 shots in a pair of wins, including a season-high 39 against Tri-City on Jan. 14.

Whitehead and the Stars wrap up the regular season this weekend with a home-and-home set against Tri-City. Friday is the Stars' final home game of the regular season and tickets can be purchased at

Lincoln enters the final two games of the regular season in third place in the Western Conference with a playoff spot clinched. If the Stars end the season in third place then they will begin the postseason against the sixth seed (Des Moines or Sioux Falls). The first round of the Clark Cup Playoffs runs from April 24-26 in a best-of-three game series and all three games would be at the Ice Box.

If the Stars can finish the season in second place then they will receive a first round bye and would not begin the postseason until April 28. Stay tuned to as well as the Stars' Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for the latest information on postseason news as it becomes available.
