FOUR-GOAL FIRST PUSHES STARS PAST LANCERS

FERKODIC SCORES TWICE, MASSIE MAKES 26 SAVES

The Lincoln Stars used a four-goal first period to defeat the Omaha Lancers, 6-3, on Friday night at the Ice Box.

Max Ferkodic scored twice and Lucas Massie stopped 26-of-28 shots in the penultimate game of the preseason.

Tyler Wood got the action started for the Stars with a rebound shot at the 10:30 mark in the opening period. Jack Pechar forced a turnover on the forecheck and fed Blake Montgomery in front of the net. His shot was kicked aside but Wood swatted home the rebound just before the net came off its moorings.

Ferkodic answered with a quick goal at the 11:02 mark in the first just 32 seconds after Wood's opening tally. He rifled home a pass from Dashel Oliver from behind the goal line to double up the Stars' lead. Ferkodic added an empty-net goal in the third period to wrap up the scoring. His two-goal effort on Friday night marked the second consecutive game that he has scored in and Ferkodic has now scored three goals this preseason.

No more than two minutes after Ferkodic found the back of the net Reese Shaw added on to the Stars lead at the 13:02 mark in the opening period. Shaw was able to find open ice on a stretch pass from Jacob Rombach and slipped a sharp-angle wrister past Omaha netminder Croix Kochendorfer to put the Stars up three.
Pechar redirected a Rombach shot with five seconds left to cap the Stars' frantic start. Pechar and Rombach were two-of-five players with multi-point nights.

Omaha scored a couple of goals late in the second period to cut the deficit in half. Cooper Conway put the Lancers on the board at the 16:03 mark in the second and then Ethan Fredericks. Off a tie-up on a faceoff in the Stars' end Fredericks found the loose pick and flicked it past Massie.

Keaton Peters helped the Stars' regain a three-goal lead with a goal at the 6:24 mark of the third. Peters redirected Francois De Villier's shot off the pads of netminder Jack Olson but then pushed his own rebound home for his first goal of the preseason.

Jamison Sluys crashed the net and scored on a second-chance opportunity for the Lancers' final goal at the 14:08 mark of the third.
