STAMPEDE THIRD PERIOD SURGE TOPS STARS SATURDAY NIGHT

MANGAN RECORDS MULTI-POINT NIGHT IN LOSS

The Sioux Falls Stampede scored four times in the third period to defeat the Lincoln Stars, 5-2, on Saturday night at the Ice Box.

Jared Mangan scored and added an assist but the Stars were unable to finish off the weekend sweep. Both Lincoln (14-18-0-2) goals came on the man advantage as they struck three times on the power play.

The visitors flipped the script after the Stars scored three times in the third on Friday night. Chris Pelosi tallied twice for Sioux Falls (19-15-2-1), tying the game up at the 16:09 on the power play and then gave them the lead 6:23 into the third.

Mangan cut the deficit to one when he parted the defense and scored at the 14:21 mark of the third for his second goal of the weekend and 11th of the season. Yan Shostak recorded the lone assist for his second assist of the season. He became the ninth goaltender in Stars history to record a multi-point season and the first since Kaidan Mbereko and Cameron Whitehead both recorded two assists in 2021-22.

Kai Janviriya scored the Stars' other power-play goal on a wrist shot from the right point at the 10:42 mark of the second. That put the Stars up 1-0, but would be their only lead of the night.

After Pelosi gave the Stampede the lead, Jake Toll scored the eventual game-winner on a redirection at the 10:45 mark of the third. Micah Berger restored the two-goal lead 2:25 after Mangan made it a one-goal game and Gennadi Chally scored an empty-net goal from his own blue line directly off a neutral-zone faceoff win.

The Stars concluded a stretch of 13 consecutive games against Western Conference opponents with an 8-5 mark. Lincoln travels to Muskegon to take on the Lumberjacks next Saturday night at 6:10 CST. The Stars are 5-6 against Eastern Conference opponents.
