STARS FALL TO SIOUX CITY IN MID-WEEK MATCHUP

LOOMER SCORES HIS FOURTH GOAL OF THE SEASON

The Lincoln Stars dropped the first game of their season series against the Sioux City Musketeers with a 3-1 loss on Wednesday afternoon at the Tyson Events Center.

The reigning USHL Forward of the Week got the scoring started when Giacomo Martino lit the lamp at the 10:36 mark of the first on a two-on-one rush from just inside the left circle.

Layne Loomer tied things up 1-1 on a mid-air deflection as he was able to play the puck beneath the cross bar at the 9:07 mark of the second.

Sioux City took the lead when Jackson Crowder's no-look backhand shot between the two circles was stopped but Olivers Murnieks cleaned up the rebound at the 12:25 mark of the second.

Lincoln had an opportunity to tie the game again just over three minutes later but Dashel Oliver hit the far post on a penalty shot.

Tate Pritchard added an empty-net goal for Sioux City in the final minute to seal the win.

The Stars are home for a pair of games against Fargo this weekend at the Ice Box. Tickets are available for purchase for Friday's Nebraska Epilepsy Night and Saturday's Military Appreciation Night at lincolnstars.com
