FINAL 2-17-24

STARS EXTEND POINT STREAK, FALL IN OVERTIME

EARN AT LEAST ONE POINT FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT GAME

The Lincoln Stars overcame two different deficits, but ultimately lost to the Sioux City Musketeers, 2-1, in overtime.

Kadan Shahan scored twice, including with 11.3 seconds left in overtime to help Sioux City (26-13-6-0) bounce back from Friday night's loss at Lincoln (19-19-1-2).

Keaton Peters and Jack Pechar scored for the Stars as their five-game win streak came to an end but they earned a point for a sixth straight game. Lincoln is seven points ahead of Des Moines for the final playoff spot in the West and five points behind Sioux Falls for the fifth seed.

Sam Court drove a one-time blast home from the left point off a feed from fellow defenseman Ty Hanson to open the scoring at the 11:27 mark of the first. Peters and the Stars responded with a power-play goal from the left-wing side at the 2:27 mark of the second. Peters' team-leading 17th goal came in his 150th career USHL game and also gave the Stars a power-play goal for a sixth consecutive game.

Shahan responded with a power-play goal of his own just 58 seconds into the third period but Pechar produced a goal on his own. After driving in on the right-wing side and seeing his wrist shot denied, he collected his own rebound, only to be stopped again. He fell into goaltender Dylan Silverstein and, as he was seated on the ice, guided the puck around his body into the net with his back to net. The equalizer at the 6:34 mark of the third was his 14th goal of the season and ninth away from the Ice Box.

Shahan cashed in on the breakaway after a Stars turnover and wrapped up the game with his second of the night late in the third. Both teams had four skaters on the ice due to the expiration of a Sioux City penalty with 2:51 into the extra frame.

The Stars conclude the weekend on Sunday night at home against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 5:05. It is the Stars' Undie Sunday game and fans are encouraged to bring new, prepackaged underwear and toss it on the ice after the Stars score their first goal to donate to Foster Care Closet of Nebraska. Tickets for both games can be purchased now at lincolnstars.com.
