FIVE-ON-THREE GOAL DOOMS STARS FRIDAY NIGHT

MONTGOMERY SCORES 19TH GOAL

Michael Quinn broke a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal 7:22 into the third period and the Fargo Force defeated the Lincoln Stars, 3-1, on Friday night at Scheels Arena.

Blake Montgomery tallied his 19th goal of the season but Lincoln (22-23-2-2) could not hang on to the early lead. Lee Parks scored the game-tying midway goal through the second before Quinn's heroics. Brasen Boser tallied an empty-net goal with 16 seconds remaining.

Two Stars penalties 23 seconds apart set up the game winner as Quinn lit the lamp for the second time in as many days at the 7:22 mark of the second.

Yan Shostak made a terrific stop twisting from post-to-post shortly before Montgomery's tally. Nikolas Young carried the puck north shortly after flicked it to the net from the left point and, though Anton Castro made the save, the puck ricocheted to the far side for Montgomery. He made no mistake and the Stars took the lead 17:43 into the game.

Parks netted the equalizer by staving off the defense on a stretch pass from Michael LaStarza for his sixth goal against the Stars and 25th overall.

Lincoln is two points ahead of Des Moines for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference after the Buccaneers lost in overtime Friday night. The Stars and the Force wrap up the weekend Saturday night at 6:05 at Scheels Arena.

Lincoln's next home games are Mar. 15-16 against the Chicago Steel and tickets can be purchased at lincolnstars.com.
