WATERLOO, IA. — The Lincoln Stars (4-9-1-0) fell by the score of 5-1 against the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday night.
For the second straight game, the Stars would surrender a goal in the opening three minutes of the period. Keegan Davis found himself open in front of the Stars net, and fired home his second goal of the season to give Waterloo the early lead. Lincoln would respond however, with an Evan Malkhassian goal on a great rush to even up the game at one. Waterloo would have a power-play late in the first, but the game would remain knotted at one heading into the first intermission.
The second period began with the Stars controlling the play. Lincoln out-shot Waterloo 6-2 throughout the first 10 minutes of the period, but Waterloo would capitalize on two power-plays with goals from Miles Jinman and Caleb Deanovich to take a two-goal lead. The 3-1 score would hold into the second intermission.
The Black Hawks would take advantage of Stars' mental errors in the third, jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the blink of an eye. The Black Hawks carried three power-play goals to the 5-1 victory on home ice.
The Stars are back in action on Saturday night at the Ice Box at 6:05 p.m. against Waterloo. It's Salute to Service Night presented by Folds of Honor. Tickets are available at lincolnstars.com
