STARS FALL TO STAMPEDE MONDAY

LINCOLN 2 SIOUX FALLS 6

Sioux Falls, SD. —  The Lincoln Stars (3-4-0-0) saw their two-game losing streak end on Monday night at the hands of the Sioux Falls Stampede.

Sioux Falls would strike early and often in the first period, recording two goals in the opening five minutes, taking a two-goal lead with the goals separated by 31 seconds. Later in the frame, the Stampede would add a power-play tally, taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Stars would improve in the second period, outshooting the Stampede 13-7. But the Stampede quelled all of the Stars momentum, striking for their fourth goal of the game in the final 90 seconds of the middle frame. The Stars would find themselves with a four-goal deficit heading into the final period of regulation.

The Stars would find their first tally of the night on a break shorthanded. Thomas Noll III found Jackson Rudh (St. Cloud State) on a two-on-one, and Rudh was able to find the back of the net. Lincoln would add another late on Captain Evan Malkhassian's (Harvard) first of the season. But the Stampede would score two more times in the contest and take the first meeting of the season 6-2.

The Stars return to action on Saturday against the Sioux City Musketeers. It's Star Wars night presented by the American Red Cross, and tickets are available at lincolnstars.com
